Overview

Line 2 (the Yellow Line) carries Delhi Metro beneath the heart of the city. Its Phase I underground section runs through some of Delhi's oldest and most densely built neighbourhoods.

The underground packages were commissioned 8–9 months ahead of schedule. Prof. (Dr.) H. R. Yadav's doctoral research at IIT Delhi — a geotechnical evaluation of Delhi Metro tunnels — grew out of this work.

Engineering challenges

  • Controlling tunnelling-induced settlement beneath old, closely spaced buildings
  • Deep station excavations in a congested urban setting
  • Delivering underground works to an accelerated programme
